Version 1.03

Welcome to my Sudoku 16 page. I have written this solver to show the extent of the possible logical solutions that derive from the numbers on the board. This has been written in Javascript/DHTML and uses a number of interesting techniques.

NOTE: This in an archive page from 2005 and has not been developed since then.

How to use this Solver

The small board is for entering your own puzzle. To try this out I suggest you pick from the list of examples first. Clicking on Take Step fills the empty squares with lists of the possible number solutions for each square. If the solution is exactly one number then the program will write that number in blue.

You can now use the << button to step back one go. Toggling between Take Step and << helps you see the changes.

You have to click Take Step continuously and you will see how the solution for the whole board is derived. However, unless the orginal problem is fairly simple the rules embedded in this solver will not be enough to complete the problem. The human has to 'guess' a square an see if this leads to a dead end.

If you get to that point start using the small board to enter your own numbers to complete the puzzle. Keep clicking Take Step to see how you entries fare. You can enter a new puzzle by clearing the board.
